Youth Exchanges

Why participate?

You will…

  • gain new knowledge and improve crucial skills and competences (such as communication, teamwork, critical thinking and processing information, presentation skills, better understanding of the EU and current social issues, …);
  • discover new places and cultures, make new friends from all over the world, and broaden your horizons;
  • improve your English in an international environment;
  • become part of both international and local community and gain support to carry out your own initiatives.

What is a youth exchange?

An international activity that…

  • encourages intercultural dialogue and learning and fosters appreciation of European values,
  • develops skills and attitudes among young people while breaking down prejudices and stereotypes,
  • raises awareness of socially relevant topics, helping young people engage in society and actively participate.

Basic info:

  • Participants are young people aged 13 to 30
  • At least 2 countries are involved in each project
  • Youth exchange can last from 5 to 21 days (usually around 1 week)
  • At least 16 international participants attend the activity (at least 4+1 per country)
  • The content are  non-formal educational activities (workshops, seminars, games, simulations, presentations, intercultural activities, excursions, etc.)
  • The theme of each youth exchange is typically some current EU topic (digital skills, democracy and law, environment, mental health, cyberbullying, culture, youth employability, European values, etc.)

Professional Development

Why participate?

  • improve your ability to communicate with people from different cultural and professional backgrounds;
  • improve your communication in English;
  • meet colleagues from other countries, exchange know-how and experiences and inspire each other;
  • establish new professional relationships that can lead to future cross-border cooperation;
  • learn more about European programs and funding opportunities;
  • learn how to prepare and implement projects in the field of education, youth and sport.

What is a professional development activity?

An international activity that…

  • provides opportunities for non-formal learning and professional development of education workers;
  • contributes to the development of educational organisations, institutions and systems;
  • builds communities of professionals who support the quality of projects and activities for young people in EU programmes and beyond;
  • develops local practices of working with youth and helps building capacity for quality work of  professionals, their organisations, schools and other institutions.

Basic info:

  • Participants are mainly professionals aged 18
  • At least 2 countries are involved in each project
  • Lasts from 2 to 60 days (usually around 1 week)
  • Up to 60 international participants per activity
  • The format can be: study visits, job shadowing, exchanges and peer learning of youth workers,
    networking and community building among youth workers, trainings, seminars and workshops.
