About the project
ExChange 2024 “Decolonising Narratives” is a youth exchange for 28 young people from Italy, Czech Republic, Lithuania and Greece which aims to equip them with the knowledge, skills and tools to identify, deconstruct and counteract “single story” and misinformative media narratives about a contentious issue which perpetuate “othering” and “divisive” public opinion, online and offline. During the week the learners will learn how to deconstruct misinformation and build inclusive and accurate digital narratives about an issue which attracts an extreme quantity of misinformation in the media in European Society: migrations into the EU from the Global South. The learning at the project will be facilitated through a series of group-led, interactive, non-formal learner activities (simulation activities, problem solving tasks, hands on communication and awareness-raising training, critical reading and viewing of key texts and films, brainstorming, debate) over the course of the week.
What will you learn?
→ Knowledge about: how to analyze information in media and social media about migrations into the EU from the Global South in European public opinion; the political and media forces that perpetuate “single story” narratives” about migrations; how to construct inclusive and accurate narratives about contentious issues.
→ Tools: in inclusive, digital communication; fake news identification and denunciation online and offline; ways of sensitizing fellow citizens to ways of identifying and deconstructing fake news and forming public opinion about migrations with accurate and inclusive narratives.
→ Skills in: cross-border cooperation with other learners; confident and considerate self-expression; speaking english; preparing for and leading discussions; thinking critically and transmitting this skill; empathy awareness-raising; community engagement.
Financial conditions
All accommodation and meals during the mobility and you round trip up to 275€ will be covered from the Erasmus+ programme.🙂
About the hosting organization
Maghweb is a no-profit organisation based in Palermo, Sicily. Their team is composed of educators, video-makers, journalists and project managers, who use their professional expertise to improve efficiency and visibility of activities related to social issues and international cooperation. Indeed Maghweb has been active for more than 5 years in the field of social communication, trying to develop sustainable and positive narratives, to cause a a pro-active reaction in the audience. Maghweb has developed documentaries and reportages on international and local projects who have a strong social impact. Altogether its work in the field of social communication, Maghweb has carried out several projects for social development on different topics (gender violence, street art, storytelling, migration etc.).
